The Building(s) of UTSC:
A Social Timeline
Welcome to the latest iteration of my project, The Building(s) of UTSC: A Social Timeline. This project was created as a final project for the Winter 2022 session of HISD44: Nearby History at the University of Toronto Scarborough in order to compile an timeline of the physical growth and expansion of the campus. Alongside tracking campus expansion, this timeline also highlights how UTSC has been experienced by blending social and institutional history. This project was made possible through a collaboration with the University of Toronto Scarborough Archives, housed in the library.
User’s Guide:
Stories on this site are generally organized under the buildings that they reference. The panel on the left lists each building by name, allowing quick access to each section. Would you like to read the history of UTSC’s buildings in order? Great! Begin with ‘Introduction’ and then go through the pages below it in order of its appearance.
Limited on time? I suggest starting off with ‘Introduction’, ‘Where is Scarborough College?’ and ‘The Original Scarborough College’ to provide a basis for understanding the original structure and establishment of UTSC. After that, feel free to use the navigation bar to go to sections that may be interesting, compelling, or relevant to you.
This project is by no means a comprehensive account of how the buildings of UTSC have been experienced, there are always more stories to be added. Please feel free to comment your own experiences, memories, or impressions of the campus on this post or other pages on this site to further expand the stories that this project sheds light on.
